Shelters that accept donated items? Oct 30, 2011 05:46 PM (Total replies: 2)
Does anyone know of any shelters that accept donated items? My dog has a bed that he's not fond of and since I know his "taste" in beds now, I'm buying him another one. But I don't want to sell the old one. It's still in a good condition (hardly used lah) so I'm thinking of donating it I'd like to give it to a shelter/ rescue group
Thanks!

Neem Oil Oct 23, 2011 11:22 AM (Total replies: 90)
Oil and water separates so I don't find it easy to have an even application (personal experience from my plants) and you'll need a good spritzer as well.
You can get neem oil from petshops (e.g. richard's organics brand). There is a shop dedicated to neem oil products (literally called the Neem Shop) at Novena Square 2, 4th floor. I get the neem oil in a bottle (those opaque brown bottles) and they also have neem oil shampoo for dogs.
Neem oil is.. well.. I've not heard anyone say they actually like the smell. Neem shampoo is mixed with other ingredients (Azmira brand also has a neem oil shampoo) so the smell is not that strong and may even be pleasant
It's up to personal preference. In my case, I just put a few drops into the palm of my hand and squeeze shampoo on top, rub and apply to my dog. Wait a few mins and rinse Edited by Sachiko on Oct 23, 2011 at 11:29 AM

My dog doesn't respond to his name yet Oct 16, 2011 07:55 PM (Total replies: 9)
Hmmm... It's unlikely that your dog will come running to you every time you call his name... It's like humans when our parents calls us, sometimes we're like... "Yeah? What? That's my name, don't wear it out ". But we don't actually go to them all the time. As long as it elicits some response, so that you know that it registers.
Call him with a higher pitch voice. Low tones can sound like a reprimand. Wait until he's busy playing or lying down and call him. If he turns to look at you, he knows his name. You don't always need treats. You can call him to go for a walk or to just be petted. Call him at mealtimes too. He'll learn to respond to be involved. Sooner or later, like the other members said, he'll learn his name Edited by Sachiko on Oct 16, 2011 at 07:57 PM

anyone know where to get 'the honest kitchen: zeal'? Oct 15, 2011 02:24 PM (Total replies: 9)
Did you guys manage to get the smaller size (usually ard 2 lbs) or the 10lbs size? Currently they only have the large size and I'm not sure if this is because of stock issues or did they decide to only bring the large packs into SG... Thanks

WTS: ANS Active Aging Supplement 6 packets (1/2 box) Jun 10, 2011 03:51 PM (Total replies: 0)
Selling this half box at only $15. Great if you want to try it out Expiry is 04/2012
A box of this retails at around $50 for 12 packets. They have different formulas, basically the Active Aging one is the most comprehensive and includes eye supplements.
The full info can be found here: http://www.animalnutritionscience.com/lifestages_aa.php
I have a 1/2 box left which is the 6 packets pictured below. Each packet is individually sealed. The little "fishes" can be cut or torn and the oil inside is to be mixed with food. You can also put it onto a spoon and feed it that way. I do not think that you can feed the fish capsule itself.
Selling off as my usual supplement is back in stock plus my dog has never been a fan of fish oil >_<
Sorry, I spilt some of the oil on the box.. clumsy that way lol
PM me if you are interested. We can work out a MRT location and time to meet up

A sad lonely dog... Jun 4, 2011 12:56 PM (Total replies: 12)
Cheer up, I think she's just missing her other siblings and previous environment.
To bring her to a vet would be able to rule out any medical reasons for her inactivity. What did her previous owner feed her on, are you feeding the same food?
My dog when first adopted, was supposedly paper trained but I found I needed to re-train him for a week as well, becoz it's a different environment...
When you bring her downstairs, she does her business right?
I think it should be okay, if she comes and lies down next to you, to me it's a sign of trust but it's just that to go from having her whole family around her to not, well it's a big adjustment.
I don't think that you're being cruel, from what I see, you want to do the best for her and because you just have one, you'll be able to give her more individual attention and care than your ex-colleague.

Dental cleaning for dog without GA? Jun 4, 2011 12:31 PM (Total replies: 8)
Does anyone know of clinics, besides Namly (which I will call), that do dental scaling without GA? My dog has allergies and I'm afraid he might be allergic to the GA as well...
I'd rather go to a clinic than a petshop as my dog struggles a lot too and I think that if any antibiotics etc are needed, it would be better to go to a clinic.
Thanks

Help! Maltese puppy low on glucose Nov 8, 2010 01:34 PM (Total replies: 25)
You should get the vet to check him out as thoroughly as possible for any underlying illness. The lack of glucose could be due to the diarrhoea or something more. Now's the time to find out
Usually when they have regular meals, they should be okay. It's just like humans. You can buy glucose and add to the water at home until the appetite is regained or ask the doc for those special electrolyte powder to add to the water, I think it should be about $5 per pack.
Or you can give "white" food such as white rice, white potatoes etc. These have more carbs and glucose, usually you should eat these in moderation coz they spike the blood sugar level more than other foods but I guess this is a special case.

Ideal environment for this large turtle? Oct 1, 2010 04:03 PM (Total replies: 22)
That's a bit difficult since he always hides when he sees people looking at him or close by.... but I will try
My mother bought this container, brand is Cans? Green label, red top.
Not to sound gross, but what does normal turtle poop look like? Is it hard or soft? Peaches poop is a bit like powder? Sir Peaches Poop-a-lot
Maybe he dun have enuf veg.. I'm going to try a bit of carrot later, maybe he will like that more.
Yup, we put him in the corridor and where we see there's sunlight in the house for a few hours a day. He seems happy, stretch out his neck and all

Ideal environment for this large turtle? Sep 30, 2010 10:21 AM (Total replies: 22)
Hey! No problem No water? What if it gets dehydrated? That's crap
So like a 3ft or 4ft long tank huh? Lol, we're actually throwing away one of our leather chairs in the living room to make the space for a long tank...
But I wanted to ask, do they really sell basking platform or do we have to DIY? Coz some DIY right? I know we gotta have a ramp with the platform too... Any suggestions?

Ideal environment for this large turtle? Sep 29, 2010 03:34 PM (Total replies: 22)
true true, but so damn cute lah.. got coconut tree and waterfall and everything. Nice for small fishes too
I measured Peaches, he's 7inches across so that means he needs a 70gallon tank, thereabouts. Which is roughly... a 4 foot tank?
My parents assured me that Peaches is getting a nice tank and all so I suppose, next time, I can show you Peaches new bungalow instead of his studio apartment

Ideal environment for this large turtle? Sep 29, 2010 10:37 AM (Total replies: 22)
We bought for him turtle food yesterday which he loves. He don't want the organic cabbage or lettuce... weirdo But maybe he did like it coz I did see some holes. But he loves the turtle food! I understand they cannot eat too much? They get obese right? Especially since he doesn't have much room at the moment.
Yaozi and others, no worries. I promise I will get a proper setup for him. I will go tomorrow back to the shop we got him from and see if they sell those things for him. If not, we'll find another place where I can get the platform and such...
Sigh.. I told my mum to get the small terrapins. I like the setup they have at PLC with the rocks and platform and waterfall. They seem very happy swimming around and basking..
I told my mum Peaches will die soon if he stays like this (which he may well right?).
Why do I feel like the grown-up here? Sigh... at the same time, how can you tell your parents not to do something? I told her don't buy, he's so big, and our tank has fishies, he can't share that.
Now this fella has become my responsibility >_<

Ideal environment for this large turtle? Sep 29, 2010 09:55 AM (Total replies: 22)
Yaozi, I think you're jumping the gun here. Firstly, the turtle wasn't that cheap and we do have the means to keep him well. I admit that we don't have much experience and that is why I set up this thread to learn more.
The petshop wasn't helpful either. If they had told us that we need a tank for him and this and that (imo which they should have) we would have had that ready for him before bringing him home. Or perhaps I'm too used to dog petshops, perhaps aquarium shops are not like that. Or perhaps just the person we asked did not know much about the turtles he's selling. I do see that you have a lot of passion for turtles and that's good but you could have been a bit more understanding to a first-timer like me. If I didn't want to do good for Peaches, I wouldn't have posted here. My mother should have thought this through before she bought him, I agree. But she really cares for him and has already agreed to get him a large tank and everything that's needed.
I did ask what his environment should be like, so that means I'm not going to keep him like this forever. Thank you for your suggestions and info, especially the measurements. I have shown my parents the pictures of a proper tank setup for him and we'll do our best for this fella.
Do you keep this kind of turtle too? Any other things that we should have/know? Thanks. Edited by Sachiko on Sep 29, 2010 at 10:03 AM
