Announcements, Lost n Found » Found: Male Japanese Spitz Mar 12, 2012 11:37 PM (Total replies: 2)
Hi,

May I ask is the Japanese Spitz being adopted? I've a friend where the family is looking to adopt a 'JapaneseSpitz' to replace their old age dog who died at the age of 18 years old.

This is a sincere family & if the dog is still unclaim, I can help to arrange a meet up to see if the adoption will be successful. Hear from you soon, thanks.

Karen

Hi,

If you don't mind, can you contact me or PM me so that I can leave you my contact number.

I worked with some support group where I'll be approached when they've abandoned dogs up for adoption. I can help you to keep a look out but will need some details from you (eg. any age requirement, male/female & etc.). Thanks

Behaviour & Play » adopted dog snaps Jan 26, 2012 04:54 PM (Total replies: 8)
Hi,

Just to share my experience. I agreed with the rest that you need to do more regular brushing for him and this will get him into the habits of being brush.

When I first did the brushing for my adopted MS, he too bit and snared whenever the comb touches his body whch it took me almost a year to correct him. I never use muzzle at him as I do not want to add further stress to him when comes to brushing. What I did was leash him against my window grilles during the first 3 months, this ended up that each session I took approx an hour to complete the job

I spent time talking to him & each time when he turns to snare, I gave him a pat on his bump and give him a firm 'NO'. Along with it, I also gave him reward with treats when he stop the bites (but deep in him he's very angry because he growl). These goes on for almost 6 months & more, I think is about 1 year later he no longer need to be leashed to the window grilles when brushing/ grooming him.

And the next few months, I wear him with collar so that one hand of mine can put my finger thru (at the side of the neck) to prevent him from turning to bites me when he gives his sudden attack.

I am so happy now that I can comb & groom him without any collar, I can even now turn him face up to brush his tummy. He seem to be more happy and enjoying the moment than he first time.

Just be patience and firm to him if you think what you doing is good for him, once he build his trust with you things can workout to your way.
Hope my sharing can be of some help.......

Hi Sylvia,

Thanks for your sharing. What I did is I burnt it but yet after a week to 2 I find another one on my dog.

If I squeeze the 'fellow' never die and still moving but burn him to death does not end the cycle. Will use this method of drown in hot water, thanks for sharing.

Hi Gwen,

I am great that you have a open heart to save more furkids. I always encourage friends around me not to buy but to adopt one when they are ready to keep one.

I've recently help to find my friend a maltese who is just 2 years old. Here's my view why one should adopt instead of purchase:-

1) Many dogs or cats who are abondon are all healthy and free from sickess

2) No one taking care of them and some irresponsible owner will choose to event disgard them as an object
- place along the roadside of a highway
- tight the dog on a pole (if he is not being pick up by good heart, someone with bad heart can cause harm & death to the helpless one)

3) Roam around helplessly especially small dog is so dangerous when he/she tries to cross the road

4) The little one will pick food from the floor or dustbin, drink dirty water from the floor or drain

5) More prompt in contacting with fleas & ticks and some other disease

6) Don't encourage to buy from Pet farm who use the female dogs to keep giving little puppies one after another without even giving her body a rest

I hope you can use some of these points to encourage more people to adopt instead of buying for one. When your mummy gives u a agreed green light, contact me and I'll help u to find one.

Regards
Karen

How do kill a fleas? Heard that we should not burn it but to drown the fleas.

Drown it in soap solution or just normal water? Can someone share. Thanks

Diet, Nutrition & Supplements » **need advice...feeding portion for wellness super5mix just for puppy May 23, 2011 05:51 PM (Total replies: 7)
hihi,

My view is that since you've switch him to Wellness, you should follow the feeding portion according to the packaging. But the advise is not to fully switch him to the new food, you'll need to slowly increase the portion:-

Day 1-3 : 1/3 Wellness + Proplan
Day 4-5 : 1/2 Wellness + Proplan
Day 6 : 100% Wellness

Monitor him to see any changes such as skin irritation. Hope this info., is helpful.

Playpen, Supplies & Accessories » Where to get fleece flooring? Oct 11, 2010 11:42 AM (Total replies: 100)
Hi,

Thanks for all the sharing of using 'fleece' as guniea pigs bedding. Yes, indeed it's very costly especially I've 2 big cages and this cost me 1 1/2 packs of 5kg bedding each time I cahnge the bedding.

I've a few questions and can someone please share:-

1) using 'fleece' (underneath the fleece place newspaper & towel) how well is the odour absorption?
2) what's the most effective ways to wash/ clean the 'fleece' in getting rid of the odour smell?
3) let's say for hand wash, can I use soap powder & brush off the stain?
4) afterwhich soak it with vineger?

Or can do you guys does your washing? Please share, thanks

Grooming & Styles » Unprofessional groomer Sep 25, 2010 05:02 PM (Total replies: 48)
Hi Tzino,

After hearing all the bad experiences of those irresponsible groomer, I did some homework thru reading on like he feedback of some of the shortlisted 'pet groomer' or 'grooming centre.

Soon I shortlisted this shop which is also a grooming school, the grooming centre is located inside Pets Station pets shop. The shop has an open concept where we can view while they've their grooming.

Mr Pak had 3 helpers and when I was there, there were 2 other dogs having their grooming. While he's talking with me on the type of cut for the 2 furkids, his girls came by and bring them onto the grooming table. Mine kids are Mini Schnauzer (male & female is a schnauzer & poodle mixed). I had a schnauzer cut for Him and as for the female, her furs are very curlly (like all poodle). I told Mr Pak that I would like her to look more like a schnauzer he suggested me to grow her fur longer and recommended a puppy cut. He told me it'll takes 3 hours for the 2 and the charges is S$50 each for full grooming. Actually I was standing outside the grooming shop but my 2 furkids saw me and kept barking, so I decided to take my leave.

Shortly after I left, Mr Pak called and said he needed more time as he needs to give them 'demantling'. I'll surely bring them back to him as he gave me the right advise of what is necessary. That day, I ended up collecting them @ 7pm instead of 3pm without any additional charges.

I'm very comfortable and will recommend anyone who's looking for a reliable groomer. PM me for the contact if you're keen and hope these information will help you in the shortlisting.

Hi Junhui,

Actually I've not come across this name when I search for a obedience class for my MS, I've done some homework comparing the list of training and pricing.

I sent mine to 'Dr.-Dogs', for 8 lessons (1.5 hrs each lesson) @ S$360. The lessons benefited alot for me & my 2 furkids. Indeed, they're both more obedient and understand us better when we gave them a command.

Browse thru their website and if you decide to give a try, u can PM me. I take no commission but it's important that we see result for our money spent.

Doggie News & Discussions » Hdb wants me to remove my mongrel within 2weeks , Aug 31, 2010 10:54 PM (Total replies: 10)
is so upset to hear this. I've adopted a pair of MS 2 months ago and when one barks, the other one will join. As I am staying at the corner unit and my gate is facing the corridor.

Even now, when they were tease by the neighbour at times they try barking at them. But when we give warning to them not to bark, they understand and growl very softly. But one day, the female started barking @ 4.30am without much choice, I wake up to stop them before I get the complain.

But the next day she did the same but this time much earlier @ 4.00am. Without much choice, I checked out the pet shop and was recommended the 'anti-bark collar' which'll release statics when they bark. I need not have to use this product for long, just 3 days it corrected their bad barking habit. I need not have to use it on them now, but when they're too noisy we'll just need to hold up the 'anti-bark collar' and they stop the noise.

If your issue is because they're noisy, you may want to check out on this product. But if your neighbour trying to find fault, you may want to take the advice and put your dog with someone until the AVA stop coming to check.
