Brands of food pellets for your Rabbit(s) Sep 5, 2010 08:51 PM (Total replies: 563)
I realised that I've fed my bunnies quite a number of brands over the years and at the end of the day, I still end up with Marukan (maybe I ought to list down what I've tried and my bunnies' reactions. LOL!). So far, there are no problems (checked with the vets) and are of very healthy weight. However, Expresso is kinda small for a HL. She's merely 1.01kg at six months of age.

Fecal size varies with Breeds Sep 5, 2010 08:41 PM (Total replies: 4)
Hi all!
Here's my two cents worth.
My bunnies are kept in pairs or trios, hence they share food. In general, I have noticed that with my bunnies, they generally eat according to their size and needs and do not over eat. Extra pellets is usually just left alone to be munched on later. Hay is always topped up.
With that in mind, I find that their poop is in relation to their size. The bigger the bun, the bigger the poop. However, there is an exception with Hugs (ND) and Blueberry (HL): With both their small appetites, their poop is around the same size. As Blueberry's health isn't exactly fabulous, she has lost weight and eats lesser. Thus, I presume this is the reason behind the small poop. If I were to compare Doughnut's (HL) poop to the rest, then yes, it's really in relation to their sizes. So basically, Blueberry seems to be an outlier.
Amazinglove, that picture actually has 11 rabbits in it, since it's the Christmas one but I have 12 bunnies actually. So not yet 13. Heeheehee.

Brands of food pellets for your Rabbit(s) Aug 24, 2010 05:54 PM (Total replies: 563)
Hi Pixie,
I find that my bunnies' pee stink lesser with Marukan. I've tried rabbit diet and Sanko's Rabbit Plus. Marukan still works better for my bunnies.

Brands of food pellets for your Rabbit(s) Aug 12, 2010 02:58 PM (Total replies: 563)
Hi Amazinglove,
I actually do not have issues when my bunnies are on Marukan or Sanko or Burgess. I don't see any growth spurts in them either. In fact, they are more or less the same weight, with them only putting on weight after sterilisation (with the exception of Blueberry due to medical condition).
The main thing that I find with them is the smell of the pee. With Burgess, the pee is smelly. With Sanko, it's not as bad. With Marukan, the pee doesn't smell so bad. I think Marukan has yucca extract in the food to control the pee odour.
If your bunnies are below one year of age, the growth spurts may occur due to the fact that they are still in the growth stage and the weight gain generally tapers and be more stable as they grow older.
When they're on Oxbow, they're okay too. Pee smells though. However, I have noticed inconsistencies in Oxbow pellets and I have two bunnies that will have diarrhoea whenever they're on Oxbow.

HELP! A RESCUED BUNNY JUST GAVE BIRTH Aug 12, 2010 02:51 PM (Total replies: 11)
If you do not wish to keep the bunny, you can approach animal welfare organisations such as HRSS and SPCA to seek help and assistance.
Good luck with the bunnies and do update us!

HELP! A RESCUED BUNNY JUST GAVE BIRTH Aug 12, 2010 02:49 PM (Total replies: 11)
In general, rabbits spend about 5 mins with their kits each day for nursing. Other than that, the Dam pretty much leaves the kit alone but is still alert and watching the young.
One other way to feed the kit is to force feed the kit by cradling the mother and holding the kit to the mother's nipple so that the kit can suckle milk. You can refer to picture is post#14 of this thread: http://www.petschannel.com/forum/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=7232&start=11. Do hold on firmly to both mother and kit so that accidental kicking or hurt do not occur.
Do remember to touch the mother first so that her smell is on your hands. This is to reduce the possiblity of her ignoring the kit even more. If you're worried, you can dab vanilla essence on your hands, touch the Dam's nose and transfer the smell there then touch the baby. This is so that she will associate the smell as hers.
Feeding milk bought from petshops cannot be as nutritious as the mother's milk but is an alternative. There's Petlac for baby animals available from pet shops which is suitable for bunnies. You can try that too. Do note that if you're feeding the baby this way, you'll need to feed the kit every 4 - 6 hours.
Rabbits like their privacy, as do new mothers. It would be good to ensure that the surronding area is quite and does not have that much foot traffic. This will help the new mother feel safe with her kit.
Rabbits can kill their own young too. It is part of their prey instincts and they do that because they feel that the survival of the young is compromised and is better off dead than to survive poorly in the world. Edited by psychedelicstar on Aug 12, 2010 at 02:49 PM

Is my bunny pregnant? Aug 10, 2010 06:03 PM (Total replies: 4)
Does should be palpated 11-14 days after breeding/mating. After 14 days, until just before the doe kindles, it can be very difficult to determine whether she is pregnant.
So, before you go back and check her stomach (it's actually not her stomach exactly), please do some counting first.
I'm glad you love bunnies but consider the fact that bunnies reproduce really fast and more bunnies mean more expenses (I have 11 and I certainly can tell you that upkeeping them requires a sound budget and a cookie fund for emergencies such as medical emergencies).
If you would like more bunnies, you could always give adoption a thought. It can be nice to give another bunny a second chance. Just a reminder, we don't encourage breeding in this forum and in general, don't give tips as to how to breed bunnies.

Scottish Fold Aug 10, 2010 04:29 PM (Total replies: 7)
You might want to search through the Feline Fanciers Society of Singapore (FFSS) and see if they list any breeders of the Scottish Fold cats. Alternatively, you may check out with the pet shops or overseas breeders.

Is my bunny pregnant? Aug 10, 2010 04:09 PM (Total replies: 4)
You will need to palpate your female to know if she is pregnant. You can also choose to try to listen for the 'pop' sound but gut movements can sometimes be mistaken for it. Alternatively, you can have her checked at the vet's and get vet's guidance on how to take care of her. Usually, it takes experience to know if the bunny is pregnant after palpating (many inexperienced people do get it wrong all the time). The surest way that I can think of is through an x-ray (an ultra sound can be done but that is quite a step since it involved shaving off the fur in order to get it done).
Rabbits can mate as early as 4 months of age. Doesn't mean that they "don't know" or if they are smaller in size then they won't mate. Humping can mean establishing dominance as well as mating. If you don't wish for your bunny to get pregnant, then have them sterilised.
Bunny pregnancies last about one month. Do you remember when you last saw your bunnies mate? You can do some general counting.
Does also go through false pregnancies. So, this could be an episode of a false pregnancy and well, if you don't wish for your bunny to mate, then sterilising would ensure that there are no more false pregnancies and both your bunnies can get along better, aside from the many health benefits from sterilising.

That's a pretty nice set up you have!
You can consider rotating toys so they don't get tired of their toys too fast!

Organic carrots vs 'normal' carrots Jul 20, 2010 03:56 PM (Total replies: 4)
There are parts of veggies that some rabbits like more than others. For carrots, because of the high sugar content, it is advisable to give small quantities and give it as a treat rather than a staple vegetable.
As with fruits, they are of higher sugar level than vegetables (in general), hence, it would be good if they are given as treats instead.
For celery, the stem is harder to eat and requires more chewing, so some rabbits may just prefer to take the easy way out and eat the leaves only.
