Hey, do anyone know the procedure of deticking in the clinic? I doubt it's as simple as applying frontline right? I heard some steps involving dipping the dog into some solution.. anyone did detick before? Care to share some pointers pls.
Anyway, update on my dog. I have observed much little ticks on him now.. like, 3-4 a day. Some day even lesser such is 1. But this morning I saw one HUGE one that had already finished his feast on my boy. Damn. I've cleaned the house everyday, vacuum too.. So I'm considering to bring my dog to detick, even though I've already applied frontline on him and intermittently spray anti-tick solution on him...

Deticking involves soaking your dog in a pesticide and leaving him to stand for 15 to 20 mins. The solution kills existing ticks... they will the try to brush / blow out the dead ones. Nothing is 100%. You may still find some dead/dying ones in the coat.

just sent my bear bear for flea/tick bath last weds, as well as deticking... its not usu done in a clinic... i had bear bear done at the barkangel shop.... right after the drticking and bath, i appplied frontline plus... they pulled off 20+++ ticks off bear.... so sad to see so many ticks....
now, there's so much less ticks now.... still found one or two, but they were dead... dead dead.... hehe.....

Hi clownprince, can you let me know whether you know your bear bear has tick that's why send for deticking. Or you just send him in and found that has tick?
Thanks Li Hia

oh.. I realised you mentioned tick bath and deticking separately? Are they different? And hmm.. how much did you pay..?
My Charlie is finally free from ticks! Hooray! Now I don't see ticks on him anymore.. but he has bumps.. Maybe from the heat since GR tends to develop skin irritation..

yeah flea bath and de-ticking are separate items for quite a number of shops.... flea/tick bath consists of bathing the dog in special medicated anti-tick/flea shampoo only.... de-ticking consists of sitting down and slowly combing thru the entire dog for ticks..... so for my sammie, it was a very very tough job for the groomer........ luckily they have more powerful hairdryers..... mine can hardly penetrate my bear's fur.......
sometimes, after the ticks drop off or get pulled off, there'd still be some scabs/ scars left... maybe those are the bumps?

It was horrible when my dogs had ticks... and they really multiply so fast, and even infest the house! Gross!
What I found to be very useful was the Tick Twister, a kind of tick remover device, which removes the entire tick body from the dog. I keep the Tick Twister ready so that I can remove any ticks that I find on my dogs... Don't want to give them a chance to multiply!! I used to just use my fingers to pull off the ticks but then I realised that if I just pulled the tick off, parts of its body might still remain in my dog... yuck!

This might have been discussed before but there're so many pages to go through and I'm desperately finding a solution to 100% get rid of the ticks on my schnauzer.
I heard from a dog owner that we can bring our dogs to the clinic for de-ticking? I can't remember clearly but it seems like the dogs are injected or fed with medicine and the ticks will die after sucking the blood.
I found only 1 tick on my dog's belly few days ago, but recently he's been getting more and more bites but I can't seem to find any ticks on his body. My dad thinks it's just rashes but I do not wish to take a risk.
I'd would like to bring my dog to the clinice for de-ticking but not sure if the chemicals will be detrimental to his health?

Hi artemize...
if there are only bites or red spots) then these might be rashes or other insect bites.... ticks will continue to suck at the wound drawing out all the blood they can get till they get fat and fall off (the big fat pregnant ones fall off to give birth which then multiplies ur problems by the thousands.... ) ....
so, bringing him to the clinic might be a good idea, if only just to clarify what these little bite marks are..... sometmes its heat rash and the dog might scratch at them til the spots bleed, becoming wounds....
