Hey all,
I recently bought these canned wet food Burp! Apparently it's made by PLC exclusive. And I've always been reserved about buying house brands because I thought, ..it's just not their specialty :S But the sales person was telling me it's the food is made up of solely meat + jelly (as the filler).
Well I've been looking around the forums here to search for any Burp! reviews. Most of the reviews I come across are people saying Burp! is bad because Tuna causes liver disease in cats. That's true, in a sense I further researched to find out that daily consumption of tuna in huge amount causes health issues. But once in awhile is fine.
My question is.. The Burp! canned food that I bought are all Premium, it's made of Salmon, Seabream etc instead of Tuna. So since it's not tuna, does that mean it'll be safe for my cat? D:
Will greatly appreciate for some advice.. as I'm still pretty new to being a cat owner. Just fyi, I've been experimenting my cat with a lot of different brands of cat food to see which is his favorite. (i.e Wellness core, EVO, Addiction, Evanger, Fancy Feast)
Basically for all the brands I've given him, except for Fancy Feast.. He will often eat only a little of it and walk back to the kibbles. He was fed w Fancy Feast before I adopted him, and I stopped FF after researching the amount of junks they have in there!
Until earlier, when I tried Burp! (Seabream and Jelly) for him, he actually finished everything in one go! The bowl was as clean as new, like I've just finished washing it! Not even a speck of it left.
So I'm wondering, if Burp! is actually a good brand for cats. I'm thinking of mixing Burp! and one of the Wellness/EVO/Evanger brands but I'm not sure if it'll be alright for his health.
So will need some of your expertise.. (Just to add a note, my cat is currently eating Orijen mixed w Royal Canin 36 for his kibbles)
Thanks!

Hi, I am like you, also tried a lot of food for my cat, with the only intention to give him the best. I am feeding him wellness dry, and used to mix with burp (prob about a tablespoon only) for dinner...then I changed to natural balance reduced calories and mix with the wellness dry for dinner instead...he eats all...
Though he still prefers burp, but at least he eats natural balance wet food....he totally hates wellness and avoderm wet food, so I am sticking to wellness dry and natural balance wet...I guess have to experiment and see what is best for your kitty...try changing his diet gradually too..
My main aim is to feed him on no grains, then slowly change him to home cooked diet,,,,that is the best dire actuality
Hope that helps...

Oh cool, found someone that I can talk to about this!
Eh, since you mentioned you fed your kitty Burp! before, have you tried Salmon w Crabmeat in Jelly before? Because recently I opened that canned, and I saw that a portion of the meat was in GREY color...
Is that mould or is that the color its supposed to be? I have email PLC regarding this but they gave me no reply at all (Guess they can't be bothered?).. I'm v disappointed w their service. Sigh.. if given a choice, I wouldn't want to get Burp! anymore but my kitty seem to be addicted to it :S

I bought all flavours, even the premium ones...i guess its due to production but my cat loves it too...actually, i dont like it cos its not very nutritional...now i am giving it to my cat as treats when i prepare to feed the street cats (its cheaper).

I'm not a cat lover but i've tried their range of treats for my gal. As it was a house brand , so reviews is not available at all until pet owners bought n tried.
To be frank, their house brand as compare to others, it's really cheap but i dont quite like it cos everytime i gave my gal the house brand treat , she'll drink plenty of water as compare to other brand i've given her which she dont drink that much. So, i presume additives or salt could be related but label itself wasnt spelt out, but i've alry stop buying yrs back, dont noe if they hv any change in "recipe" or "upgrade" their product.
That's only my own point of view nia , please dont take into account.lol.....

o_o Hey speaking of that, I think so too! You just made me realise that it is indeed true that when they take the product, they drink more water. Come to think of it, my kitty did take in a lot of water when I feed him their products. So much so that I have to keep re-filling...
Now I know, hmm.. I think I will just stick w Evo and Wellness core, even though he doesn't really favor them =(

I was reading this forum and by page 5, i have concluded that all commercial cat food (wet or dry) out there is either bad or declining in quality and that home cooked food though safest will require a lot of homework to know what is adequate nourishment for your cat.
Read at your own peril. http://forums.redflagdeals.com/quality-pet-food-makers-who-they-really-905185/
Regarding Burp, I was buying stacks of Fussie Cat wet food from PLC when the staff recommended Burp! to me, saying that it is less salty than Fussie Cat and fit for human consumption. I asked if he has tried it, or else how would he know if it's true. He claimed that one of the customers eats it with bread. Hmmm. I bought one tin for my cat to try. He finished it at one go but I didn't keep an eye on his water intake and I don't fancy trying cat food myself so I can't judge on the salt level. What really doesn't sit well with me is how skimpy the ingredient info is on the label and I just don't like jelly fillers.
I need to cut back the Fussie Cat wet food even though my cat loves it, because all flavours are tuna with this and tuna with that! The non tuna ones (bigger tins), he only eats those when desperate.
I am thinking of switching to Addiction which seemed to have good reviews but another commented that cats can't digest fruits and Addiction has all those fruit and pea ingredients. Sigh! The more I read, the less I know.

At least your cats want to eat wet food.. I've tried Burp! and Fussie Cat, Wellness canned food and she doesn't want to eat. She just licks the liquid off and walks away...
I think my cat is totally weird. Tried to feed her raw fish or chicken and she doesn't want.. She likes raw prawns though..I don't think it's good for her..only give her as treats. She only likes to eat her kibbles.
Any of you have fussy cat like mine? Only eat dry food?

my cat hates wet food too!! she will hardly even try half a mouthful. She enjoys dry food. I juz converted her diet from whiskas to pro nature holistics. The previous owner fed her whiskas on a daily basis, and i realise it wasn't exactly nutritious at all!
she enjoys Burp! Chicken Breast snack, and gets excited whenever i hold up the packet of food and making noises with the packet. I think its the only food to get her all excited and jumpy. (:
