That's a shampoo with henna and apricot poodle is actually a very light colour compared with the red poodle.

No wonder your dog is changing colour with each wash!

See here:
http://www.homesteadpoodles.com/available%20puppies.html

The one on the left is a red and the one on your right is a apricot.

can i just ask why it's such a big issue about the dogs fur colour?

maybe i am being ignorant and i mean no disrespect when i say isn't it more important that you have a healthy dog than a pretty dog? i have a little toy poodle who with age has gone from an apricot colour to an off white almost beige and he has patches of apricot colour. but i am not concerned about that.

he loves me just the way i am and shouldn't i do the same for him?

he has no teeth, his legs are all bent out of shape, his tongue hangs out and he constantly has goop in his eyes due to his age his immune system isn't great. his digestive system isn't great either so most of the time he has runny poo stuck to him as well. within hours of bathing him but he still looks great for his 10 years of age. i am trying to help him with acupuncture for his arthritis in his back legs and supplements but they all seem to only help a little.

ur puppy is only 5 months old and u r willing to give him supplements (herbal or chemical) at a very young age to enhance his fur color?

i hope all the advise that was given to you will help your dogs fur color and i apologize if i was hurtful or disrespectful in any way but i was just curious why it was so important to have a dark coated red color poodle apart from the fact you paid more for it ... well i am assuming so.

just thought i'd just put out a thought out there

Hi hi,

I think it's normal for toy poodle to have a color fade.
You can read: Link Removed: Do not link to other forums

In fact, I read the forums, the color of most of the toy poodle faded.

I guess it won't affect the love for our furkid, just that it is a concern for them.

We do have a toy poodle at home (Nana, u might see her pic somewhere in the forum).
Her color faded too. She was a red, now almost an apricot. but we love her color. it's just nice

Also saw an apricot poodle who turn almost cream except for her ears.
So I guess it's hard to find toy poodle who don't fade (maybe other than Taiwan's breed).

hmm my new pet teddy bear's fur is fading really quickly as well. It was literally red when we bought it and now it's even lighter than apricot!
i have read the comments previously some said it was due to 1) shampoo 2) aging but i have another dog who is 12 years old exactly the same breed and color. I use the same shampoo and give the same food to both dogs but teddy is still becoming fairer and fairer as compared to my the other dog! I agree with pinkalicious that the fur color will fade as time pass but why do some dogs fade so much faster?

on a side note: My family and i still love my doggies =) more and more each day! will upload some videos and photos to share with all the poodle owners out there! especially red poodle owners!

Sadly to say, majority of the poodles in sg now are in double tones...usually coat nearest to skin is lighter than the outer coat and normally in shelter areas they look darker than usual and so as time u groom the coat becomes lighter and lighter, of cos may be due to ageing, food, shampoo too. I guess most of the local breeders mix dam and sire of different tones. And also of the locally breed darker reds usually grow bigger than toy size. This is what i have found out when im searching for my other red solid color poodle.

BUT now i feel my lighter red/apricot looks more like a toy teddy bear when i look from far lol

ya its normal... as u can see my boy at 3yrs+ old is alrdy turning apricot. there is a #1 all systems shampoo to enhance the red if u wanna try but i dont use cos afterall its like a dye not permanent... im just using the normal all systems shampoo for crisp coat =)

just keep the ears fur slightly longer than jaws and of cos a gd teddy cut groomer, they'll look like teddy bear of any color =D

Yiling, I suspect it's your shampoo. I have used the wrong shampoo before and my poodle color changed. I'm currently using all-system's super cleaning recommended by my grooming teacher. And I was also told that poodle doesn't need conditioner unless its fur is too dry cos if you want your poodle to be puffy, the fur need to have a bit of weigh and hardiness (so that it can stand puffy for the teddy bear look especially). My poodle is back to its red coat again.

You might want to try feeding your poodle steamed pumpkin? It can help give a nice shiny coat of fur. Just give a small piece and smashed / mixed with the food.

But color changing in poodle is very common, it has something to to with the genetic combinations of the poodle itself. So don't be too worried about it.
