i actually changed my first vet to this new one 2 mths back only for the sake of a second opinion so now to change again.. i am fearful my baby will feel insecure too. now he is shiverin a lot everytime we r inside e car cos he know we r heading somewhere again.

Understand your little pooch being apprehensive about car rides! Try giving him a treat to make up for it.

There is always a small element of risk going under general anesthesia for surgery but since your dog is a JRT, it is not a brachycephalic or flat-nosed dog, there should not be too much to worry about. I would worry for mine since its a Shih Tzu.

I found a detailed explanation about canine eye ulcer on this site:
http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/health/culcers.htm

I hope it gives you a clear direction on what to do next, after what you've done so far.

Some eye damages are not reversible, but heavy eye discharge can be easily resolved, at least for my foster gal (also a Russell Terrier). Her eyes literally "glued up" every morning due to overnight discharge. In the day time, eye cleaning is a perpetual chore. I am not complaining, but I feel the discomfort for her. About 2 weeks into switching her diet from HCF to raw, her eyes cleared up! NO MORE DISCHARGE!! It's been 4 months, and she wakes up every morning with clean sparkling eyes.

Actually the raw food also does wonders to her loose stools (YUE, you might want to consider this option for your bulldog puppy. Give him some pumpkin, can be cooked or raw, and see if he gets better), bad skin, and minor ear discharge. Her very bad case of loose stools was gone after the FIRST feeding of raw diet! Her skin, needless to say, is rash free and itch free. Even her ears are clean. I joked that she is an auto-cleaning dog!

Read my post #246:

Good food need not be expensive. Kibbles and treats, even bad ones, are not cheap! Assuming that good food is expensive, but you save on vet visits, and you get a healthy and happy dog.

PS: Most of the raw food are purchased from NTUC. Expensive?? Mmmm......

dear all .. sorry for the late updates. have been tied up with babyboy .. spending time with him and of course overseeing work at the same time.

still wanna thank everyone who commented in the thread providing me with very useful insights n info.

just a short update .... we brought him to the vet again last wkend & upon the UV shine, surprisingly his ulcers seem to vanish, instead it was a new case of inflammation which caused irritation in his eyes. I am still not convinced the ulcers were gone but the results did show less spots of ulcers.

vet gave us different eye gel with this tiny portion of liquid med .... 3 days now baby's eyes seem brighter and he no longer require e e-collar. i hope this stays because vet encourages e sterilization op next. it had been put off for quite sometime cos 1st his liver was having some high enzymes issues than the eyes. so now i hope to send him 4 e op soon even thou deep down i feel damn guilty and sad and definitely worried.

my point is .. i wanna thank everyone who helped me in one way or another esp those prayers. thank you all!!!

CONGRATS!!! So happy for you and your boy for the improvement! Before last weekend, did you do something different or change the diet that led to the improvement?

Is there an urgency to perform sterilization despite your boy's current health issues? If you do not feel comfortable at proceeding with it now, can't it be delayed? The choice is yours

thanks greengreen.

nope, didn't do any much changes to e diet at all. in fact fri night, his eyes were still swollen and we had to put the e-collar thru e day and night. sat early morning we brought him to e vet n his eyes miraculously healed a bit lol. he is always recovering whenever we bring him back to e vet! i think e vet doesnt believe us that his problem was bad lol~

as for urgency .... cos to be frank his age is a mystery to us as he was adopted. n every mth for 2-3 days he seem to have discharge frm his privates and his lower abdomen will shiver a lot, according to e previous vet, an op will b gd for him n persuaded us not to delay in case his actual age is old and the op will prevent future illnesses. so i heeded that advice since if it does benefit my baby in e long term.

i remembered it was las yr mar we brought him 4 e vet but opted for a full med check up to ensure his is fine but turns out his liver was having issues so we had to monitor his condition for 3 to 4 mths. den his eyes problem came but las wkend we did a full med check up again and prove his liver is perfectly ok so i tot we shld really proceed else after 2 mths of hesitation, we will nid to pay another 300 bucks for just e med check up again before we can do e op. thats what the vet says .. e med check up will oni last 2 mths to be safe. i got no experience at this at all haha!
