Yours For Life 2006

Date 8 April 2006, Saturday
Time 10am - 6pm
Venue National Youth Park (opposite Orchard CineLeisure)

Yours for Life is an annual event to encourage adoption and reduce rabbit abuse and abandonment. Through this event, HRSS aims to remind people of the message of responsible pet ownership.

This year's theme is 'Debunking the Easter Bunny myth';

Easter falls on 16th April this year. Kids all across Singapore will once again be painting eggs and learning about the Easter tradition. However, the thing that will fascinate kids most will be the Easter Bunny. Many parents will visit pet shops and buy young rabbits as gifts for their kids.

However, contrary to Easter time hype, rabbits and children are not a good match. The natural exuberance of even the gentlest toddler is stressful for the sensitive rabbit. Children like a companion they can hold, carry, and cuddle. However, rabbits are not passive and cuddly. They are ground-loving creatures who feel frightened and insecure when held and restrained.

Easter bunnies soon grow large and reach adolescence. If left unneutered, they will chew, spray or dig. Whats the result? The child loses interest, and the rabbit ends up neglected or abandoned. Animal welfare organizations such as the SPCA and HRSS see a huge increase in the number of abandoned rabbits right after Easter.

At this public event, HRSS will educate people of the above the above message and also try to find new homes for animals in its care.

The key highlights of the event are:
- An Educational corner to provide the general public, and in particular children, with information about rabbit care and behaviour.

- A children's colouring contest with partner schools to spread the message of responsible pet ownership.

- An adoption drive for potential adopters to meet rabbits in HRSS' care. HRSS currently has over 50 abandoned rabbits for adoption. Profiles can be viewed online at Adoption Gallery.

- Grooming for rabbit owners pamper their furry friends. This is by appointment only; please contact adeline@hrss.net to register.

- Sale of exclusive merchandise to raise funds to support HRSS' rabbit rescue and rehoming initiatives.
